What makes a useful brief

A reflected ceiling plan or site plan establishes scale and mounting locations. Add target light levels where they are known, plus the intended correlated color temperature, color rendering requirement and preferred dimming protocol. For exterior work, note exposure, vandal resistance, nearby properties and any dark-sky or BUG rating criteria. For interiors, describe ceiling constraints, task areas, screen use and expected control zones.

If the design is still conceptual, photographs and a concise description are enough to begin. State whether the immediate need is a product family shortlist, an IES or LDT file, a sample, budget context, lead-time coordination or an answer about an installed product. Naming the current decision helps us avoid sending a broad catalog when the team needs one verified detail.

Limits worth identifying early

High efficacy does not automatically produce low glare, and a compact integrated luminaire may provide less field serviceability than a larger replaceable system. Wireless or distributed controls can add zoning flexibility, while centralized systems may simplify policy and monitoring. The suitable balance depends on the operating team, commissioning scope and expected changes to the space.
